Urban Consolidation Centers: The UK Experience
On May 6, 2014 the fifth Peer-to-Peer Exchange Webinar, Urban Consolidation Centers: The UK Experience was held. Over the past 10 years a number of Urban Consolidations Centers (UCC) have been introduced in the UK. Professor Michael Browne (University of Westminster) reviewed past experiences, discussed the impacts and performance of UCCs, the underlying factors influencing success of UCCs, considering the wider influences in terms of vehicle type and use.
At the end, Professor Holguín-Veras gave a summary of the chief lessons from the Japanese, Dutch, and UK experience with UCCs. In doing so, he highlighted success and failure factors and discussed the potential role of UCCs as part of a holistic strategy towards sustainable urban freight systems.
